Reading Borough Council (RBC) will spend £4.5 million carrying out repair and improvement works to its portfolio of buildings over the next three years.
The works include fixing a grade II-listed building’s wall, improving the Palmer Park athletics track and improvements to children’s centres and libraries.
Councils are required to ensure their buildings are safe and well maintained.
Regular compliance audits and condition surveys are carried out to ensure this happens.
The council’s £4.5 million budget for maintaining the sites is £1.5 million short of the £6 million recommended to keep its buildings safe.
A corporate officer at RBC monitors the programme and budget on a monthly basis, ensuring high priority works are implemented and contingencies are in place for unexpected works.

The council delivered a £2 million programme of works last year, which included works at the Town Hall, Henley Road Crematorium and South Reading Community Hubs.
