THIS week, our regular trip down memory lane takes us to Southampton Street and St Giles' Church.

The church was originally built in the 12th Century to serve the population to the south of the River Kennet who found it difficult to reach St Mary’s during winter floods of the river.

If you think you know when the original photograph was taken, please let us know.

Every week the team at The Reading Chronicle pores through the archives to find these hidden gems. We would like to hear your memories of the local area and any thoughts you may have on the changes that have occurred. Get in touch with us by emailing andrew.colley@london.newsquest.co.uk or write to Reading Chronicle, Bowman House, 2-10 Bridge Street, Reading, RG12LU.

We’re on the lookout for more historic images from the area. Send your pictures and suggestions for our team to re-photograph.
