Students aged 15 to 17 from across the area have enjoyed a unique opportunity to learn about design and robotics in a professional laboratory.

The students spent four days at the UCB laboratories in Bath Road, Slough working with scientists, engineers and commercial and corporate staff to learn about all aspects of the industry.

The company specialises in research into neurology and immunology disorders focussing on genetics and human biology.

The visiting students got involved in virtual reality training, gaining insights into medicine design and robotics, gaining valuable experience for their CV and university application during the summer.

UCB works with In2Science, an organisation which helps to get students from low income backgrounds to think about pursuing careers in 'science, technology, engineering and maths'.

The initiative hopes to help show young people the wide range of roles available to them within STEM and generate excitement around a prospective career in the industry. Slough students who have previously taken part in the week have since gone on to become apprentices at the company.
