A VARIETY of wildflowers will be planted in areas across Ascot to attract insects and animals and make it more colourful for residents.

At a meeting at RBWM, councillors have agreed to encourage wildlife friendly grasses, flowers and insect friendly plants.

The Borough have agreed to mow verges less frequently and parks and open spaces to attract biodiversity, while being considerate to health and safety issues with traffic.

Wildflowers will be introduced to make areas look more attractive and colourful and introduce drought resistant insect friendly plants in key roadside areas.

Councillor Donna Stimson, who put forward the motion, said: "Encouraging biodiversity, which is the variety of plant and animal life, in our borough is so important to our residents and it’s great that we are taking positive steps to improve this.

“The environmental and climate emergency concerns each and every one of us and so it’s crucial that we all work together to conserve and improve the place we call home.”

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead declared a climate emergency in June and passed a motion to reach carbon neutral position by 2050.
