Thousands of Bracknell residents came together to celebrate Bracknell’s 70th anniversary as a new town on Saturday.

To mark the occasion, residents were invited to a community day, where a number of fun activities were on offer to enjoy.

Attendees had the chance to post memories of Bracknell in the birthday post pox, have a selfie taken in the #bracknellturns70 Instagram frame, speak to the author of ‘The Lexicon – Making it happen’ Victor Nicholls and help create a piece of artwork in the shape of a giant 70.

500 free cupcakes were also given out during the event.

The council will continue to mark the anniversary, including offering long-time Bracknell residents who’re also turning 70 this year to share their memories of Bracknell.

Cllr Paul Bettison OBE, Leader of Bracknell Forest Council, said: “I’m so pleased that so many people were able to join in the celebrations to mark this milestone moment in our town’s history at the weekend.

“Bracknell has a wonderfully full and rich history as a new town, and this is another chapter in its story. We’ll be continuing to celebrate this anniversary over the coming days so why not take a look at all the wonderful memories that have been shared as part of this occasion.”

Mutliple organisers came together to create the first ever Bracknell Community day, such as the Rotary Club of Easthampstead, the Bracknell Forest Society and The Lexicon.

Chris Tailor, Healthwatch Bracknell Forest, said: "Thanks so much for the event on Saturday, it was one of the best events I have been to in a while.

"It was refreshing to meet and chat with new people, which that space is brilliant for. Thanks for arranging this for the community and voluntary sector."
