PLANS for a new crepe cafe at Savernake Park could be given the go-ahead this week.

If the applicant gets the green light to set up shop, AL Crepes & Cafe would serve a range of sweet and savoury pancakes, as well as hot and cold drinks from a trading van in the car park of the Winkfield Row site.

Proposed pancake toppings include banana and toffee, apple and cinnamon, Nutella and strawberries and more.

RESIDENTS FEAR POLO CLUB EXPANSION

Savoury servings of pepperoni and cheese, tuna and sweetcorn and chicken and cheese pesto spinach are also planned.

However, a group of residents are hoping the council flips the proposal after complaining about the potential impact of the new eatery.

One wrote to Bracknell Forest Council, saying: “I work from home and enjoy the peace and quiet that living by Savernake provides.

“I’m concerned a noisy generator running at the cafe will be disruptive, for myself and the wildlife, particularly wildfowl.

“I welcome the cafe facilities at Lily Hill Park but find the generator noise detracts from the pleasant environment, almost spoiling it. Ideally, the council will be working towards creating a more permanent facility.”

Three residents also pointed to the “tonnes of litter” and “mess” that is left around the car park and lake amid fears the new cafe could add to the problem.

One questioned what plans the council has in place to deal with the eatery’s waste, claiming it “is due to the public who visit the pond and regularly pick up litter that the site is not even worse.”

Other concerns included the array of takeaways near to the site, as well as the space taken up by the size of the van given the car park is “inadequate”.

The trader would be allowed to serve crepes from 12pm to 8pm Tuesday – Sunday if the plans are approved.

Councillors are set to decide on the proposals at a licensing meeting on Thursday, June 20.
