A FORMER Binfield resident has been left unhappy after noticing the war memorial gates at St Marks Church in Binfield have been damaged.
Harry Wharton who had lived in Binfield since 1962 moved away from the village when house prices went up.
He felt upset to see the gates have been destroyed, which he noticed when walking passed them.
He said: “I noticed that it looked like a car or a lorry had driven into the church gates and on the other side of the gate is the war memorial park.
“It’s sad to see because Binfield has always been a little village but now it’s been extended, which has caused a higher volume in traffic."
The church is aware of the incident and the damage to the gates.
A spokesman from St Marks Church, said: “We are aware of a road traffic incident that caused the gates to be damaged.
“People do get attached to community churches and we are very disappointed that this has happened. We are relieved that the memorial park hasn’t been damaged.”
The church is currently working with their insurance company to repair the gates.
Thames Valley Police have been approached for a comment.
