EAGER students cut the ribbon to unveil their new outdoor gym area, after weeks of anticipation and excitement.

Owlsmoor Primary School in Sandhurst, celebrated the opening of their new adventure playground on March 18.

The new area has been kitted out with a climbing frame and gym equipment, aimed to encourage a healthier lifestyle amongst children.

Laura Mcallister, deputy headteacher, said: “The children were very excited and were really keen to start using the equipment since it has been installed.

“This area of the school grounds was no longer being used for anything, as it previously housed a building that was knocked down, and it needed to be redeveloped.

"We decided to build the outdoor gym to provide the children with equipment they can use at playtimes. This is part of our work on promoting the benefits of exercise and being active as part of a healthy lifestyle.”

Building work was carried out during the February half term, where a climbing frame, new turf and gym equipment was installed, replacing the old building.

The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) funded the equipment as part of the schools bid to promoting fitness.

Pupils, Augustine in year 1 and Kelton in year 6, opened the playground in front of the whole school and pupils cheered as they got the chance to play in it for the first time.

Laura added: “It was really exciting for the children as they now feel grown up being able to use a gym.

"Promoting fitness is a big national priority, as well as a priority for us as a school, and I think that the outdoor gym will be a great resource for the children at Owlsmoor.”
