A BIKER was rushed to hospital with life-changing injuries after a crash involving a motorcycle and a lorry.

The A322 Bagshot Road northbound was closed for several hours on Wednesday evening after the collision, which took place at around 7.35pm.

Paramedics treated the motorcyclist, a 37-year-old man, at the scene, before he was sent to hospital by air ambulance.

When the fire service arrived, they found the bike on fire and they spent nearly 90 minutes on the scene.

A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service said: “We received multiple 999 calls around 19:40 yesterday evening all reporting a serious collision between a lorry and a motorcyclist by the BP Garage on Bagshot Road.

“We sent two ambulances, a paramedic team leader in a rapid response vehicle, the Thames Valley Air Ambulance emergency response car and the South East Coast Air Ambulance to the scene.

“The rider had sustained serious leg injuries and after initial treatment at the scene was then taken by air to the major trauma unit at University Hospital Southampton.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward and are particularly keen to hear from people with dash-cam footage.

Ben Eastment, of the Joint Operations Unit for Roads Policing, said: “This was a very serious collision, which has left a man with serious injuries.

“I am appealing for anybody who witnessed the collision, or who may have dash-cam footage, to contact the 24-hour non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 43190054966.
