WORK to expand Downshire Way into a dual carriageway, between the Horse and Groom and Twin Bridges roundabouts is due to start.

The A322 Downshire Way improvement scheme will start on Monday, 18 February and is designed to help local residents move more easily around the road network and reduced congestion, the council say.

The expansion will start with the set up of the working site and the removal of trees, which will be affected. Tree experts will determine which trees will be affected with the aim of saving as many of them as possible.

Councillor Chris Turrell, executive member for planning and transport, said: “We are dedicated to improving the local road network for our residents by reducing congestion, renewing roads and making it easier to get around."

Improvements to planting and vegetation along the road will also be part of the scheme to form a greenway, which will provide new habitats for wildlife and connecting woodlands.

The council believe the greenway project will replace the trees and provide long-term enrichment for the community and wildlife.

Cllr Turrel added: “The A322 Downshire Way improvement scheme will not only contribute towards more reliable journeys but will also provide environmental benefits.

“We will ensure that all work is undertaken as quickly as possible to minimise disruption to road users.”

When the work begins the road will be reduced to 30mph. For more information and for further updates visit: www.bracknell-forest.gov.uk/A322.
