BINFIELD library will be the first library in the Bracknell Borough to extent its opening hours.

The longer opening hours are the result of new technology called Open+, which went live on Monday, January 28.

Open+ is designed to develop the library’s use of technology and make it more accessible to residents when it’s convenient to them.

Councillor Iain McCracken, executive member for culture, delivery and public protection, said: “Open+ works in a very similar way to 24 hour gyms and will allow registered users of Binfield library to carry out every day activities in the library, but outside of current working hours.”

Customers with an e+ card can register to use the service and gain entry to the library during unstaffed hours.

Mr McCracken added: “Customers will be able to borrow or return books, renew items, study, use the computers and Wi-Fi, pay for printing or photocopying or simply have somewhere quiet to sit and read the newspaper.

“The library will be closely monitored by CCTV and there is an emergency phone available in case of need.

“We hope Open+ will be well received and make visits to the library much more convenient and efficient for its users.”

The new opening hours will be available from 8am-8pm in the week, 8am-6pm on Saturdays and 10am-6pm on Sundays.
