An ARMED group of thieves in balaclavas struck two men with a metal bar after entering an insecure property and stealing a black box containing jewellery.

The victims, a man in his 60s was rushed to hospital for a large cut on his head and a man his 20s was also hit with a metal bar and suffered a leg injury but didn't require hospital treatment.

On Monday, January 14 at around 7pm, four to five offenders entered the property on Underwood Road in Reading through an unsecure door.

The offenders were armed with a variety of weapons including a metal bar, a hammer and hand gun.

They demanded money and when the 60-year-old victim refused to comply, he was hit over the head with a metal bar.

The man in his 60s required stitches and has since been discharged.

A woman in her 20s was unharmed.

A black box containing jewellery was stolen from the house.

Thames Valley Police are appealing for witnesses to the aggravated burglary in Reading.

The offenders are described as wearing dark clothing, had their faces covered with masks and balaclavas and they were all wearing gloves.

Investigating officer Detective Inspector Dean Brown of Force CID in Newbury, said: “We would like to speak to anyone who has information with regards to this incident.

“If you witnessed this incident or know anything about what happened, we would ask you to get in touch.

“We would also like anyone in the area with CCTV footage to contact us to help with the investigation.”
