COUNCILS spent more than £250,000 on printing in the last year.
The News found that this cost covered spending on machines and consumables.
Cllr Anthony Pollock, executive member for finance at Wokingham Borough Council (WBC), told the News:
“Our printing usage covers all internal services including legal, children’s services and planning.
“We have a shared printing service with Bracknell Forest Council, so the costs of printers and all other printing, £260,000, covers both councils.”
A freedom of information request sent to Wokingham Borough Council highlighted that 12,000 paper copies are printed each month, meaning the authorities print around 140,000 pages a year.
WBC and Bracknell Forest Council (BFC) own 59 printers, multi-function devices (MFDs) and photocopiers according to the request.
The councils spent £180,000 on their printers and relevant consumables, with a further £80,000 being spent on their MFDs and consumables.
Konica Minolta holds a contract with the councils to supply them with printers and consumables which runs for five years from October 2014 to October 2019.
In comparison, Bournemouth Borough Council spent £321,074.88 on its printers and printing in the same time period last year.
