A PRIMARY school welcomed the Mayor of Windsor and Maidenhead to open a new spiritual garden to provide a calm and safe space for students.
The garden, designed by staff and pupils at Holy Trinity C of E Primary school in Sunningdale was opened by Mayor Paul Lion and his wife Laura on Tuesday, November 4.
Headteacher Joanne Griffith said: "It has been a long process funding and designing the garden but allowing the school and eco councils to take ownership of the project is one of the many reasons we've recently been awarded the prestigious investors in pupils award."
Pupils and staff showed the two Mayors around, marking the special ceremony of the official opening of the garden. The green area will focus on its selection of plants and flowers, encouraging pupils to enjoy the space and use it for personal reflection and mental well-being.
Students are also encouraged to look after their new spiritual garden, by taking ownership and maintaining it.
Mayor Cllr Paul Lion said: "I was delighted to be asked to open the new garden that pupils, staff, parents and governess have clearly worked so hard on.
"It is a great project that the school can enjoy and develop in the coming years. Well done to everyone involved."
The headteacher added: "We are really proud of all the pupils who have been involved and grateful to parents who have helped with the design and the PTA for as always being so supportive of the school."
