A PERSON died after being hit by a train at a line close to Reading, causing delays and cancellations of services.  

Officers were called to the scene shortly after 8.40am and discovered the person on the tracks. 

The person was pronounced dead after paramedics attended the scene.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "Officers are working to understand the circumstances of how the person came to be on the tracks and recieve their fatal injuries. The incident is not currently being treated as suspicious." 

"Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family." 

Great Western Railway confirmed that the lines reopened at around 10.45am on Wednesday.

The service between Slough and Reading was suspended to allow for emegency services to deal with the incident.
