MARY Abraham is a champion, a diabetes community champion.

She and her colleagues have been visiting libraries in and around Slough offering vital guidance and advice.

There were 9,500 patients in Slough with diagnosed diabetes in 2014/15 amounting to 8.4 per cent of the population, which is significantly higher than the national average of 6.4 per cent.

November is Global Diabetes Awareness month.

Diabetes champions have been to the Curve in Slough and Langley library already and will be at Britwell library next Monday, November 19 from 10.30am to 1.30pm, Cippenham Library on Thursday, November 22 from 2pm to 4.30pm and Chalvey Community Satellite Library on Monday, November 26 from 11am to 1.30pm.

They will also be offering advice and support to families with ideas on how to change eating and exercise habits, keeping a healthy weight and keep diabetes at bay.

There are also plans to visit mosques and temples in the town.
