POLICE swooped on a quiet residential street when fire fighters discovered a cannabis factory today (Friday).

Crews from Dee Road and Wokingham Road fire stations raised the alarm after forcing their way into a terraced house in Henry Street in Katesgrove, Reading at 10.45am when neighbours reported smoke wafting from a first floor window.

Officers extinguished the flames before contacting police who dispatched a team of officers and forensic experts to confiscate more than 200 plants and comb the four bedroom house for clues.

Police are keen to trace an Oriental man who escaped through the back door of the property towards Southampton Street when firefighters arrived. He is 5ft 5" tall, around 30 years of age and dressed in black.

Anyone with any information should contact Reading Police station's PC James Faulkner on 0845 850 5505 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
