Acoustic foursome Spiro have turned back the clock and have reissued their debut record, from 1997, Pole Star.

To support the release they are playing a number of live dates, including The Fire Station, Windsor, and South Steet Arts Centre Reading.

Jason Sparkes, who plays piano accordion, in the band said to The Guide: “We are enjoying touring the album.

“It’s going to be be great to play in Reading and Windsor.

“We wrote this music about 17 years ago. To be honest, it does feel a bit strange going back and playing it again – it reflects what we were doing at that moment in time.”

He added: “We are playing that stuff but we will be playing new bits as well.”

Sparkes admitted that things had changed since the release of Pole Star.

“Around that time w we much more reliant on traditional music than we are now,” he said. “Now even though we use traditional music it’s based around a riff – back then the traditional music was the core.”

The band met on the Bristol music scene and the line-up has remained constant for more than 20 years.

They are also currently working on a new album, set for release in 2015.
