Life is moving apace for Windsor-born siblings Jonathan, Roseanna and Alanna Brown – otherwise known as The Rua.
Having just returned from New York shooting their video for Fight For What’s Right – and heading back to the Big Apple for the College Music Festival from October 21-15 – the band are on the cusp of releasing their debut album, Essence, on October 27,
Jonathan said: “It has been a busy year! We recorded the album this time last year and since then it has just gone so quickly – when you get a moment where things slow down a bit, before you know it that has passed and you are back in it again!”
Despite all of the success, the classically trained trio – who all have incidentally appeared in hit films ranging from the Harry Potter series and Stormbreak to Closer and Snow White and the Huntsman – are still very much connected to their roots.
“We still do open mic nights at the Acre [in Windsor],” Roseanna adds: “There is a lot going on there - there is a lot of great musicians in Windsor and it is all about just getting the right opportunity.”
Also featuring on the album are extended-family members Nigel Harrison (ex-bassist for Blondie), Portishead drummer Clive Dreamer and Dani Robinson who is the official guitarist for The Jimi Hendrix Live Experience.
And for anyone confused about the name, Roseanna explains: “As our surname is Brown, we thought ‘Rua’ was Celtic for ‘brown’.
It turned out it wasn’t, but it is Hebrew for something like ‘essence of a group’, hence the album name ‘Essence’. It all works out!”
