THE Slough Jets qualified for the semi-finals of the Premier Cup following Sunday's triumph over the Swindon Wildcats.

"It's a great achievement," said head coach Pete Russell.

"The league has changed so to get into that is fantastic. We've had two big teams coming into the league as well so it's a bit of a coupe for us to be there as one of the top sides.

"It's some pay back for the effort we've put in.

"You couldn't ask for any more from a new team. Hopefully we can keep getting a bit better.

"All teams will go through dips and we've been through a bit of a dip already.

"We have targeted seven or eight points from the next five games and then we will be in with a great chance come the New Year."

Slough's record in the Premier Cup of 12 wins, three losses and two overtime losses gives them 26 points and pole position with one game left to play in the competition. Joining them in qualifying for the semi-finals are Manchester Phoenix and Milton Keynes with Guildford Flames, Sheffield Scimitars and Basingstoke Bison fighting it out for the remaining place.

The final qualifying game in the cup competition for the Jets is at Swindon on January 17.

On Saturday, the Jets host the Romford Raiders but they do have a break on Sunday which is a bonus as their head coach and Ciaran Long who will be on Great Britain Under-20 duty in the European Championships in Hungary.

"We are playing Romford at the weekend and I'm away coaching the GB youth team (U20) along with Ciaran Long," commented Russell.

"We can get away with it for a bit but not for two or three weeks, we will be back a week on Sunday. They have agreed to let me go which is good and hopefully it will be good for the club as well if their coach can return with a gold medal.

"The Hungary game will be the big one, I think it will go down to that one. If we can win that and return with a European gold medal it will be excellent."
