For the opening half they played them off the park and while Swindon did come back early in the second half, the boys picked up their game once more and thoroughly deserved their win to complete the double over the men from Wiltshire.

It even included a try for wing Fraser Banks on his 1st team debut!

It's also put us six points ahead of poor old Maidenhead - who lost again at home, 14-26, to second placed Towcestrians - and a comfortable 17 points away from the relegation zone with nine games left to play.

Overall it was a good day for the club as the 2nd's won 36-25 at Windsor and the 4th's by 52-0 away at Farnham Royal.

By the way, don't forget that all of our local clubs have a Saturday free from league duties this weekend.

Now, what about National Three South West leaders Redingensians Rams losing 22-13 to Bracknell at Lily Hill last Saturday? Wow! That's pulled them up with a right start I should think!

But, you know, sometimes, it's good to get a kick up the backside like that as it re-focuses everyone’s minds and underlines the hard facts that to win a league title your squad has got to stay focused, sharp and on top of their game for each and every match.

Rams still boast a five-point lead at the top, however, but have now got to get themselves re-focused starting with Saturday week's visit of the only other side to beat them this season, Weston Hornets. If that doesn't sharpen their minds, nothing will!

And talking of sharpening your minds, that'll be the case for Reading Abbey when they return to action a week on Saturday having already missed out on last weekend's game at home to bottom club Littlemore who pulled out.

It's so annoying and frustrating for players who've geared themselves up for their weekly match only to find the opposition can't raise a side!

But I know that Littlemore would not have done it unless they forced too, and if you haven't won a game all season then the commitment and desire of the players to go out there every Saturday and take another pounding is bound to become an issue.

On the wider front, my old home club Bath made it an even better weekend for me as they went and beat the mighty French side Toulouse 35-18 on their own patch in European Rugby Champions Cup action.

And it included a piece of individual brilliance from ex-Newbury Blues player Jonathan Joseph to set up one of the tries. I just can't see why England have dropped him from their squad!

Leinster versus Treviso also proved a tremendous match while much nearer home, London Irish saw off Grenoble at the Madjeski Stadium, 43-41. What a game that must have been and it was all decided in the dying minutes when, trailing 41-36, replacement fly-half Myles Dorrian ripped open the visitors defence to grab Irish's sixth try and Tom Homer banged over the conversion. Now that's what I call cup rugby!

See you next week!
