Goode’s 33-point haul set a new Premiership record for most points scored by an individual in a match.

Ironically, the previous record was held by London Irish winger Niall Woods who rattled up 32 points against Harlequins in 1998.

On Sunday, Exiles wilted under the pressure of Wasps’ first league fixture at their new home, while Coventry-born fly-half Goode revelled in the occasion in front of a record Premiership attendance of 28,254 at a home ground.

It was Irish’s sixth successive league defeat and leaves Brian Smith’s men one place off the foot of the table ahead of a crunch home clash against basement boyos London Welsh at the Madejski Stadium this Friday (3pm ko).

Irish, with only two league wins to their name all season, were more than a match for their hosts in the first-half and were only trailing 18–16 at the break.

They even scored the first try at the Ricoh Arena when prop Geoff Cross burst over from 15 yards out.

Shane Geraghty landed the conversion and Tom Homer added three penalties for the visitors.

But ex-England star Goode keeps the hosts’ noses in front with six penalties before half-time.

The second half was all Wasps as Joe Simpson, Elliot Daly and Andrea Masi ran in tries.

Goode added two more penalties as Irish lost their composure and saw hooker David Paice sent to the sin bin.

Goode then rounded off a memorable display by crossing for his own try which he also converted, before Daly and Masi touched down to secure the bonus point for Dai Young’s hosts.

Smith argued his Irish side had little help from RFU referee Tom Foley on the day.

“We knew what to expect and we made a decent fist of it, but we’re disappointed with the blow-out at the back end,” he admitted.

“I don’t want to take anything away from Wasps, as this was their day, but we have a frustrated group of players in the dressing room.

“When a young ref gets a crack in front of a big crowd, you are concerned. The penalty count was 10-2 at half-time and you have to hope it levels out, but it didn’t. But you just have to wear it and move on.”
