Centre Aaron Ross had a field day after running in six tries in the emphatic victory.

But it was very much a team effort that lay behind Abbey’s success against their struggling hosts.

Ross got the ball rolling with an early try for the visitors after good work from full-back Tom Waterhouse, who missed the conversion from the right.

Littlemore then reduced the deficit after pressure from their forwards led to a Richard Tompkins penalty.

But it was to be their only points of the afternoon as Abbey dominated from there.

Will Beaven sent winger Dylan Baptista over the line for Abbey’s second try which Waterhouse converted.

Then Ross collected Tom Bird’s kick to dab down under the posts and Waterhouse added the extras for a 19-3 lead after 14 minutes.

A fine break by Baptista set up a hat-trick try for Ross and a bonus point for Abbey within the half-hour and, though Waterhouse put the conversion wide, it was his last miss of the afternoon.

The visitors led 24-3 at the break and put Littlemore to the sword with seven more tries in the second half.

Baptista sent Waterhouse scampering under the posts, Ross followed suit minutes later then No.8 Danny Pawlett’s 50-metre burst set up a Dan Love touchdown which Waterhouse again converted for a 45-3 lead.

Inspired skipper Sam Hallett sparked the attack which saw Ross sprinting 45 metres for his fifth score then a Waterhouse break saw substitute Steve Warwick dab down.

And even though Abbey lost Treacle Knights to the sin bin, Abbey crossed for another try when Warwick’s strong run ended in Ross touching down for his sixth score.

Abbey’s 11th and final try came from the last move of the game, substitute James Mallon flopping over following another run from Warwick, with Waterhouse notching his ninth conversion for a 23-point haul.

l READING Abbey’s Danny Pawlett could celebrate his 100th league appearance for the club with another victory this Saturday.

Slough-based Phoenix are the visitors in the BB&O Premier clash at Rosehill (3pm ko).

It is a tough challenge for Phoenix, who face a jubilant Abbey, unbeaten and top of the early-season table.

Head Coach Russell Bolton insists he will go for stability and Saturday’s team will be much the same as the one which demolished Littlemore last weekend.
