Skipper Andy Amor returned at flanker and paid tribute to his side after they dominated the game to move top of the early-season table.

He beamed: “It was a great win. It’s never easy to come to Bournemouth and I think a lot of sides will struggle down here. It was a tight first half but, luckily, like last week, we scored five tries in the second half to take control.

“The first half was pretty tight but we controlled the game well with possession and then allowed our backs to play some good moves and score some tries late on.”

Rams had the better of the opening exchanges and three James Brooks’ penalties put them 9-0 ahead, with Bournemouth flanked James Bovett sinbinned for the final infringement.

However the hosts finished the half well and closed the gap to 9-3 when Rams flanker Aaron Hopkins was yellow carded and home fly half Lewis Dennett slotted the kick.

But another penalty from Brooks took Rams 12-3 ahead after the break, and they increased their advantage almost immediately as, from the restart, they put together a patient build-up that wing Ollie Foxley finally exploited jinking his way past players before putting in a neat kick ahead into the home in-goal area and winning the race to the touchdown.

Brooks tough conversion attempt went wide and from the restart Rams once more came under some severe pressure from the home team and, briefly, looked a little jittery.

However, they recovered their composure and, following a Steve Bryant break plus good work from Brooks and centre David Massey, a beautifully placed cross-kick from Luke Flower saw Bryant touch down to make the score 22-3.

Bournemouth again fought back and with Rams down to 14 following a yellow card for No. 8 Gus Davies, they finally got their rewards with an unconverted try from full back Tom Morgan.

Rams, however, reasserted their dominance as Foxley carved up the home defence once more and sent Massey steaming over, with Brooks converting to make it 29-8.

Flower’s pin-point cross-kick found Bryant again to scorch in for his second before replacement Jack Hill’s break led to a move featuring Amor, Brooks and replacement lock Mickal Kruzycki who put full back Ollie Mann, on his debut, away for the final unconverted try.

A fine second win for Rams included some superb performances, particularly from double try-scoring centre Steve Bryant who now has three in two games.

He summed up afterwards: “To get two tries off cross-field kicks is very pleasing.

“I thought the first 30 minutes was good but the 10 before half-time was pretty terrible, however, in the second half we came out firing and were good.

“I’ve never scored that much really so three tries in two weeks means I’m very happy.”
