MANAGER Keith Scott masterminded Windsor FC's thrilling victory over Molesey on Saturday by insisting that his star strikers get back to basics.
Scott, a former professional striker himself, injected confidence back into ex-Windsor & Eton forward Michael Chennells and leading goalscorer Ryan O'Toole with a few quiet words after the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy victory over Newport Pagnell Town.
And the rejuvinated duo put Molesey to the sword with an inspired second-half performance that saw Windsor come from two goals behind to win 4-3.
In fact, Scott's men were 3-0 down after half an hours play at Stag Meadow as the visitors exposed Windsor's weak link down the left hand side.
"Michael and Ryan looked like a couple of players who were short on confidence and I told them to get back to basics," Scott told the Observer.
"When you're a striker and you're having a bad time you do the basics right. You get the ball down, you look after it, pass it and when it goes wide you get in the box.
"If you're in shooting positions you dont think about it you just hit the target and that's what I felt Ryan and Michael had to do.
"I'm not questioning their ability things just weren't happening for them in games and they maybe questioned themselves, so it was important to get back to basics."
O'Toole pulled one back late in the first half from the penalty spot after being tripped inside the box, and levelled with a cool finish on the hour mark.
Chennells made it 3-2 five minutes into the second period and won the points for the hosts with a bullet header in injury time.
"The finishes were top class at any level," the Windsor supremo continued.
"I think those two players will get a lot of confidence back from their performances and the goals they scored."
And Chennells, who became a fan favourite with Windsor & Eton after scoring over 100 goals, admitted he and O'Toole are beginning to forge a dangerous partnership.
Chennells added: "Myself and Ryan are starting to play better together now.
"I'm really enjoying playing up front with him and Yashwa Romeo and hopefully I can get a few more goals.
"I'm a confidence player anyway so Keith [Scott, manager] knows how to deal with me, he gave me a few words, and now I'm back on track
However, the sensational striker is fully aware there is a long way to go in this season's race for the Combined Counties Premier Division.
He continued: "We've just got to take each game as it comes now.
"There is still a long way to go and you have just got to take it game by game, keep scoring, keep clean sheets and picking up the points."
Chennells was due to start for Windsor at Dorking on Tuesday night but the game was lost due to a frozen pitch at The Meadowbank Stadium, just as it was on January 2.
The postponement, coupled with Guildford City's suprise 2-1 home defeat against Wembley last weekend, leaves Windsor eight points behind the defending champions with two games in hand.
Next up for the fledgling club is a trip to eighth placed Horley Town on Saturday (3pm).
Scott's side came from 2-1 down to beat The Clarets 4-2 when the sides last met at Stag Meadow in November.
