BRITWELL boxers John Brennan and Tommy Tear are proving to be a big hit.

They have both claimed the highly rated North & West London ABA titles and go into Saturday night gunning for more glory at Bethnal Green's York Hall.

The ABA National Boxing Championships started for the Britwell bruisers on Thursday, March 11 as Brennan saw off Norris Thompson in the North and West London final of the 63.5-67 kgs category.

Hard blows were thrown by both men from the first bell but Brennan finished the stronger and in the second round Thompson had to take a standing eight count from the referee after his legs gave way following a big blow.

Thompson came out bravely for the third round but was no match for the 24-year-old Brennan who caught him with more hard shots to win the title and is looking to turn professional.

He commented: "It's an excellent achievement by both of us to win these titles and we live practically in the same street so it's quite a story.

"I'm looking to turn pro and hopefully we can both win at the weekend."

Tear, 21, entered the 60-63.5 kg light welterweight category and produced a fine display of boxing to land some blows whilst rarely getting hit himself to win by a unanimous decision against former England representative Ryan Taylor.

The pair, who live just round the corner from each other in Britwell, now move on to the weekend to see who will be crowned London champion in the four different divisions.

Both boxers fight for Dale Youth Amateur Boxing Club in Notting Hill, the same gym that Olympic gold medallist James DeGale used to box for.
