MAIDENHEAD Athletic Club's Keren Hollands got her season off to a good start at the Arthur Killbery memorial throws competition at Crookham on Sunday.
The 15-year-old, in her first competition throwing the senior 4kg weight, broke both the under-17 and senior women's club hammer records by over seven metres as she went over 22 metres with three of her six throws.
Her fifth round 22.48m was good enough to win the competition by just over a metre. She also added the club shot putt record with a second round 6.64m and was just over a metre short of her own club discus record with a first round 20.12m.
In the under-15s, 12-year-old Zoe Overall threw 18.42m in her first competition with the full-weight women's discus. She was unfortunate to be just eight centimetres short of the qualifying distance for the national rankings for her age group, and looks certain to challenge Hollands' discus record over the next couple of seasons.
For the seniors, Simon Emsley was back in action at the classic Hastings Half Marathon, always a challenge, and this year run in bright sunshine with a light breeze. He was able to cross the line on the seafront in 1 hour 53 minutes 33 seconds.
At Fleet, in equally kind running conditions, Sayeed Islam produced a time of 1:37.55 and Camilla Brand another solid performance of 1:46.37.
