We weren't good enough - Davis

BAGSHOT skipper Jeremy Davis has held his hands up and admitted his side just weren't good enough this season following their relegation from Division One.

Heavy rain meant that Bagshot didn't even get the chance to try and rescue their campaign on the final day as their match at Amersham was washed out without a ball being bowled.

That saw Davis' side finish bottom of the league with just three wins all season and he accepts that they will need to go back to the drawing board over the winter.

He said: "It was frustrating that we didn't get a chance to pull off a miracle, but when you look back over the whole season you have to say that the table doesn't lie.

"We didn't perform in certain games the way we needed to so I guess you can say that we got what we deserved.

"The batting just wasn't there and that was disappointing because we've got the same people in the team who have scored runs consistently over the last five years."

Bagshot 2nds were also relegated this season from Division 4a but there was good news for the 3rds who comprehensively won the Division 8a title.

Davis feels now may be the right time to start bringing through some of the youngsters at the club as they look to rebuild ahead of next year's campaign in Division 2a.

He said: "We've got some good youngsters coming through and over the next couple of years hopefully the success the 3rds have enjoyed can start to filter through to the 2nds and ourselves.

"It's good to see we have talent in that area and they will get their chance at a higher level. But the boys from the 1sts should all still be here next season so we will fancy our chances down a level."

Although he accepts his side weren't good enough this year, there is one point that Davis still looks back on with regret.

He added: "The game a few weeks back at Tring Park where their man took a hat-trick right at the end and we lost by one run.

"If we'd have got two more runs we would have finished eighth and been safe. That's how close it was."
