Last ball agony for Ascot

Comments (0) | Print | Email

Royal Ascot lost their home clash with Chenies and Latimer on the final ball of the day in Division 3b of the Thames Valley League.

With the two sides tied with just one ball remaining the visitors got a leg bye to seal the narrowest of wins.

Skipper Andy Towse hit 73 for Ascot as they posted 229-6 from their 52 overs but Chenies just scraped past their target on 230-9.

Towse said: "It was a very exciting game that ended at about 8pm in near darkness.

"I can't complain too much. We played okay but fair play to them, they chased really well."

Ascot complete their campaign with a trip to Thatcham Town 2nds this Saturday with third place already secured.

Towse added: "There's not a whole lot to play for but it would be nice to finish with a win."
