In Division 3b of the Thames Valley League Eversley's title dreams came to an end when they lost by three wickets at league leaders Henley 2nds.

Ben Saville's side knew a win would move them above Henley and put them in pole position for the title with just one game remaining.

It wasn't to be, however, as the home side chased down Eversley's 174, but with promotion guaranteed as a result of their top two finish it has still been a superb season.

Saville said: "It's a massive achievement for the club and everyone is delighted. At the start of the season a top four finish was our aim and even that was ambitious so to get second is just fantastic.

"We will be having a big get together at the club after this Saturday's game and I imagine a fair few will be heading out to town afterwards for a few more drinks."

Eversley complete their campaign against Teddington Town this weekend and Saville admits it will be a strange game for his side.

He added: "I don't know how we'll approach it - there's two sides to it. We were talking about putting the batting order into a hat and choosing it that way for a bit of a laugh but that's a bit disrespectful towards Teddington.

"So we'll just try and get things finished as quickly as possible so we can get the party started."

Last Saturday's defeat at Henley was a tight affair. Eversley batted first and were all out for 174 before Henley reached 175-7 in reply.

Saville said: "Henley were probably the best team in the league and sometimes you have to just congratulate the opposition.

"It was a close game. We both played well but they just did enough to get the win."
