I WAS shocked to see that a significant number of Reading FC fans are already calling for Jaap Stam to lose his job.

In a season where we have already seen the likes of Harry Redknapp and Frank de Boer sacked early doors, it's disappointing some supporters wish the same fate on Stam.

Let's go back a few months when the Dutchman took what was a struggling, and let's be honest, dismal Championship side and transformed them into a third-placed team.

Sure, Royals' start to the season has been a shambles, the worst since Brendan Rogers' reign in fact, but there is still plenty of time to go.

Anyone who has followed Championship football for a long time will know it's a long old slog and that anything can happen.

Brian McDermott's Royals' sensational rise up the table in the 2011/2012 season springs to mind.

I saw more than enough from Stam last season to have every faith that he is the right man from the job, but he needs to be given time and support from fans.

I sympathise with those who pay to sit in the stands and have to endure some mind-numbing passages of play, but I believe there is plenty of strength in both the playing and management staff to turn it around.

And let us not forget that this is still Stam's FIRST job in management at a professional level, so for me, calling for his head after his first blip is hugely unfair and would quite frankly be a disgrace.

Royals are being undone too easily and Stam and his coaching team need to find an alternative option when Plan A isn't working, but it is certainly not time to give him the chop.

Not to mention the fact that Royals would then need to replace him.
