DAVE Edwards urged his Reading FC teammates to get stuck in stand up to the Lions when they face Millwall at the Den tonight (7.45pm ko).

Royals were left frustrated after a disappointing display saw them draw 1-1 with Hull City on Saturday.

And 31-year-old Edwards says Jaap Stam’s men need to show more character if they want to beat Neil Harris’ Millwall tonight for their third win of the Championship season.

The Welsh international holds fond memories of playing at the Den and hopes he did enough with his man of the match performance on Saturday to be included in Stam’s starting XI.

“It’s a great game,” asserted Edwards. “It’s always nice to go and play at Millwall. There will need to be a bit more blood and guts on Tuesday night.

“They’re good at home and they’re hard to beat. It’s a challenge we’re all excited by.

“For me personally I hope I can get the nod to start because it’s somewhere I love playing and imposing myself on that sort of game."

Royals’ draw with Hull sees them sat at 18th place in the Sky Bet Championship table.

But Edwards insists a win could spark a sudden climb up the ladder.

He continued: “Our home form hasn’t been as good compared to what everyone is used to these last couple of weeks but hopefully we can pick up the win against Millwall.

"If we win then all of a sudden the draw against Hull isn’t such a bad result because it’s four points from two games and that will set us up nicely for the game against Norwich.

“It’s a big game, it’s one which we can’t take lightly, we have to be mentally up for it and physically ready to go.”

Jordan Obita remains a major doubt after he was stretchered off of the pitch on Saturday afternoon.

Stam will be sweating over the fitness of Leandro Bacuna while Yann Kermorgant and Callum Harriott remain sidelined.
