MODOU Barrow admitted Jaap Stam's style of football was a key factor in his decision to move to Reading FC from Premier League outfit Swansea City.

The 24-year-old put pen to paper on a four-year deal at Madejski Stadium yesterday (Thursday) and will be available for Jaap Stam's squad against Queens Park Rangers, subject to international clearance.

Barrow had fallen out of favour at Liberty Stadium and spent spent the second-half of last season at Championship rivals Leeds United.

The Gambian-born forward has been heavily linked with a switch to Berkshire in recent weeks after Royals saw their initial bid rejected.

But it is understood Reading offered an improved bid of around £1.5m which allowed Royals to push the Barrow deal across the line.

And the fleet-footed forward admitted he cannot wait to link up with his new team mates and embrace Royals' style of play.

"They play really good football," asserted Barrow.

"I was on loan at Leeds last season, we came here and we didn't get a very good result.

"But Reading played really well, they kept the ball and moved it around quickly.

"That's the kind of football that I want to be part of.

"The style of play will suit me so that's why I am very happy to be here."

Barrow has signed a four-year deal at Madejski Stadium

Fleet-footed forward Barrow began his career at Swedish side Mjölby Södra.

He also represented Varbergs BoIS and Östersunds FK  before the Swans moved to bring Barrow to the Premier League during the summer of 2014.  His debut came the following November, making him the first Gambian player to play in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old has also racked up plenty of Championship experience, having turned out for Leeds United, Blackburn Rovers and Nottingham Forest.

Having fallen out of favour at Swansea City, Barrow was keen to secure a move to Madejski Stadium.

"I'm happy to finally be here," he declared.

"I'm pleased the deal is done and I am looking forward to the challenge.

"I was in training and I got the phone call that the deal was going to be done.

"I'm really excited to meet the lads and to train with them.

"This is a great chance for me to fit in and to be part of the squad, it is a long-term deal so I can finally feel at home."

Barrow could go straight into Stam's squad tomorrow (Saturday) to face Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road (3pm KO).

Speaking about his fourth summer signing, the Dutchman stated: "I’m very pleased to welcome Mo to Reading Football Club and I’m delighted that we have been able to add another player to our squad ahead of the start of the new season.

"Now all our focus is on the challenge that lies ahead on Saturday and our trip to QPR.”
