READING FC have had an improved bid accepted for Swansea City's Modou Barrow.

Royals failed to lure the 24-year-year away from Liberty Stadium with a £1.25m offer earlier this summer.

But the Chronicle understands Reading boss Jaap Stam has now gone back with a bigger bid which has been successful.

The fee for the Gambian winger is thought to be in the region of £1.5m, the same amount Swans forked out to lure Barrow to Wales from Swedish side FK Ostersunds in 2014.

It is though Barrow is now heading to Madejski Stadium to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms before signing a three-year deal.

Stam stepped up his interest in Modou after Garath McCleary had recent surgery and faces weeks on the sidelines.

With forwards Yann Kermorgant and Joseph Mendes also recovering from injury, Stam is keen to strengthen his side's attack before Saturday's Championship opener at QPR (3pm ko).

QPR and Barnsley were also chasing Barrow this summer, but it appears Reading have won that particular battle.

Stam is also being linked with Huddersfield striker, Nahki Well, Chelsea midfielder, Lewis Baker, plus Fulham full-back, Sone Aluko.
