READING FC fans took a trip through virtual reality as the new kits were launched for the 2017/18 season.

A chosen 100 lucky Royals fans donned virtual reality goggles to watch a video revealing the new home and away kits for the first time.

The video shows club captain Paul McShane introducing the new strips to the Reading players in the club’s dressing room, with the home kit modelled by Liam Moore and the away kit worn by Joey van den Bergh.

The 2017/18 home kit features the iconic blue and white hoops with a ‘bubble’ effect between the hoops, white shorts and socks with blue trim.

As speculated, the away kit pays homage to Royals Dutch boss Jaap Stam with a bright orange shirt trimmed with faded black hoops, black shorts and socks.

The club also revealed the primary goalkeepers’ kit for the new campaign which is grey with red trim.

Club legend Ady Williams said: “The new kits are the best Reading FC has ever played in.

“Both strips are unbelievably good and it is important for the players to enjoy wearing the kit.

“Today also shows how innovative the club is off the field as today marks the first ever virtual reality kit reveal in the world.”

The shirts were well received by the 100 fans who attended the innovative kit launch, in particular the orange strip which is expected to sell well.

Although some supporters were unsure about the ‘bubble’ effect on the home kit, most of those in attendance said they were happy with the strips and would be buying both shirts.

Royals star Callum Harriott also revealed he is a fan of the new strips: “They’re different, very comfortable, very presentable around the collar.

“I have to say the orange kit is my favourite, it’s definitely a bit of me! I’m looking forward to getting it on.

“The kit is important because you want to feel comfortable when you’re out there playing and I think this kit is perfect for that.”
