DANNY Williams has been placed on the list of players released by Reading FC as he mulls over a new contract.

The English Football League today revealed official confirmation of all players retained and released by clubs throughout the three divisions.

And the one name that stands out with the Royals is USA midfielder Williams.

The 28-year-old was offered a new deal by the club several weeks ago, but he is yet to put pen to paper and is now a free agent.

Williams has already been linked with Premier League newboys Huddersfield Town, the side who beat Reading in the Championship play-off final at Wembley.

It is thought the ex-Hoffenheim star also has a number of options on the table from elsewhere and Royals are struggling to match the wages on offer from top-flight clubs.

Williams has never hidden his desire to play at the highest level, saying after Reading's play-off semi final win over Fulham: “I’ve always said I want to play in the Premier League.

“People always say I’m leaving every transfer window. I’m not going to lie I have had offers (in the past) but I came here and signed a four year deal for a reason.

“It’s not just words, I know what I have at this club, I think the fans know what I give to the club.

“It’s not just a phrase, I’m happy here and I’ve settled well. The fans have welcomed me since day one.

“I always said I have dreamed of going up with Reading, that’s my number one dream and now we are so close.”

Reading Chronicle:

Danny Williams was man-of-the-match in Reading's play-off semi final win against Fulham.

However, Reading's agonising defeat to Huddersfield on penalties means Williams is ready to speak to rival clubs.

Goalkeeper Luke Southwood, who helped England win the Under 20 World Cup on Sunday, has also been offered a new deal with the Royals.

But Harrison Bennett, Harry Cardwell, Dominic Hyam, Aaron Kuhl, Sean Long, Stuart Moore, Craig Tanner, Joe Tupper and Terence Vancooten have all been released by the club.

Royals boss Jaap Stam has already been linked with a number of targets as he looks to strengthen his squad for another crack at promotion next season.
