TIAGO Ilori admitted the Reading FC dressing room was near silent after the Royals' heartbreaking defeat to Huddersfield Town in the Championship play-off final.

The defender, who completed 120 minutes on Bank Holiday Monday, said the players were left lost for words after enduring a devastating end to the season.

But the 24-year-old insisted the most important thing was for the squad to regroup together.

"Everyone is disappointed," groaned Ilori.

"We didn't come this far for this. We wanted a different result but that's football.

"Now we have to move on and build for next season.

"As you can imagine there wasn't much speaking going on, everyone was just really disappointed."

Ilori, who joined the Royals in a multi-million pound switch from Premier League side Liverpool in a bid to find regular first-team football, endured a frustrating start to his career in Berkshire after he suffered an ankle injury shortly after his transfer.

But he returned to Jaap Stam's first team line-up in April and played a key role in the play-offs after skipper Paul McShane received his marching orders in the semi-final first leg against Fulham.

And the centre-back insisted both he and the rest of the squad will push forward over the summer and look to repeat this season's success in the upcoming campaign.

"Everyone is ambitious and everyone wants more," he concluded.

Royals can enjoy some downtime for the three-and-a-half weeks before reporting back at Hogwood Park for pre-season training on June 26.
