READING FC celebrated a third straight Championship win on Tuesday night after a 1-0 victory at Birmingham City.

John Swift struck the decisive blow in the second half with his seventh goal of the campaign in all competitions.

More than 650 Royals fans braved attrocious conditions on the night and were rewarded with another three points, which keeps Jaap Stam's men firmly in the promotion hunt.

They also bore the brunt of Gianfranco Zola's frustrations after chanting 'One Gary Rowett' towards the end of the match.

Rowett was unceremoniously sacked by Blues in December despite an encouraging start to the campaign, with Zola swiftly brought in to replace him.

Birmingham, though, have not won in 10 matches under Zola, who was quick to have a pop at the travelling supporters.

Zola told the Birmingham Mail: “I was expecting a little bit more class from them.

"They haven't been very nice to be honest, but it's okay. I understand they like to give stick and I would like one day to be the one giving stick as well.

"It wasn't very nice, I think you can win the game with a touch more class than they had, but it's okay."

In start contrast, Reading have now won 12 of their last 16 Championship fixtures to leave them third in the table and four points behind Newcastle United in second.

Royals travel to Ipswich Town this Saturday (3pm) with new signings Lewis Grabban, Jordon Mutch, Reece Oxford and Adrian Popa all in contention.
