JOSH Smith played a starring role as Bracknell Bees recorded their first home win and recorded back-to-back victories for the first time this season, writes Dave Wright.

Bees pulled off a surprise 3-0 victory at Sheffield last Thursday before defeating Manchester Phoenix 3-2 two nights later at The Hive.

Smith scored against the Steeldogs in addition to assisting with the other two goals, while the teenager was again on target at The Hive along with another assist.

“Yes, it hasn’t been a bad few days for me and hopefully I can have more like them,” he told the News on Saturday.

“It was nice to get a win in front of our home fans. I’m not too sure why we didn’t do it earlier, as I feel we have been playing well.

“But we kept upbeat about it and now we have got the first hopefully we will be able to keep them coming. We have to keep on fighting week in, week out and trying to chisel away each game to try to get more.”

A four-point haul from two games gave all the players a boost, especially the youngsters like Smith.

The 18-year-old forward from Frimley has been involved with the Bracknell club since the age of six, working his way up through the age-group teams to the Hornets and then the Bees.

He said: “The club has been really good for me and and I am really enjoying this season. We have a good team and I am learning all the time.”

Bees were unable to make it three wins in four days as they were beaten 4-1 at Hull Pirates on Sunday when Smith scored for the third game in a row.
