Finch captain Sam Taylor is proud of what his team has achieved this season.
SAM Taylor insists everyone involved with Finchampstead Cricket Club can be proud of what the first team has achieved this season.
The Finch skipper has guided his new-look side to a third placed finish in Division Two West of the Home Counties Premier League and says there are many positives to take into the winter months.
At the start of the campaign, following a number of changes at the club, Finch were somewhat of an unknown quantity, but now they have the opportunity to really push on and get themselves back into the top flight.
Taylor said: "We lost so much experience and ability last year but it gave guys who had been at the club for years the chance they had been crying out for.
"And they all took it. The likes of Sam Cheetham and Matt Jones were absolutely superb with the bat and our seam bowlers were brilliant all season.
"And we also got Russell Lane in and he's fitted in so comfortably from day one and created an edge to our cricket that we haven't had for a few years.
"So there's so many positives to take from the season. The boys have just been fantastic and it's given us a lot to build on for next year."
He added: "I've said a few times that we weren't quite sure what we were going to be capable of this season.
"We knew there was a lot of ability at the club but it was a bit raw. So to come third and play so well in our matches is just great and everyone is already looking forward to next season.
"There's still quite a lot to improve on but we've set a really good standard for ourselves now and we need to build on that over the next few years.
"We're not far off making it back into Division One. We've shown we can perform against the top sides and that will give us a lot of confidence for next season."
Finch's campaign finished last Saturday when their home clash with Thame was abandoned after just 12 overs with the visitors 23 without loss.
Taylor said: "It was pretty wet and when the rain came back early on it just wasn't really possible to continue.
"The wicket was okay but the areas around the wicket which weren't covered were getting pretty hazardous so it was the right call.
"It was a bit of a shame that we had to finish off that way but there wasn't much anyone could do."
