The 27-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements at the City Ground in August and found himself on the way to Reading as Nigel Adkins swooped for the striker.

Cox got off to a flying start at Reading, netting four times in his first seven league games but he’s found goals hard to come by since, scoring just once in his last 17 games.

But if he does notch on Saturday then Cox says he won’t hold back in celebrating as no feeling compares.

“My time at Forest was full of highs and full of lows,” he explained. “I scored one of the best goals I've ever scored at the City Ground but we missed out on the play-offs two seasons in a row and it wasn't to be.

“They’re all good mates there, we had a good team spirit. Chris Cohen and Henri Lansbury are two of my best mates but as soon as Saturday comes they’re not, they’re your opponents.

“There’s a respect about not celebrating but at the end of the day there’s no other feeling like it in the world.

“It’s something that you can’t replicate outside of football so why would you not celebrate?

“You were at that club but you’re not there anymore, your at a club where you’re in the team to score goals.” Cox still tops the Reading scoring charts but much of that is down to his early season form.

The hitman is happy with his contribution overall at the moment but admits he’s had a chat with Steve Clarke about addressing his lack of goals.

“It’s not a worry but it’s something I have to address,” he added. “I’ve had a chat to the manager and he’s said that to me.

“He said that I did well in the first part of the season and that no-one can argue with the work-rate I put in, but we need the goals as well.

“So it’s something since Monday, when he told me I wasn't travelling to Huddersfield, that I’ve sat back and thought about.” “Not scoring in so many games is a tough one to take when you’re put up there to score goals.

“But from the turn of the year I have assisted two or three and I’ve had to strike up a partnership with Pavel Pogrebnyak, which is something I had with Glenn Murray early on.” Clarke is again expected to make several changes to his side, with the majority of players that missed out on Tuesday evening likely to return.

Chris Gunter is pushing for a recall against his former club but Jamie Mackie is ineligible due to the restrictions of his loan.
