Royals are believed to have made an approach to the Baggies about bringing Davidson to Madejski Stadium on loan shortly before the window closed last Thursday.

Left-back Davidson is said to be facing an uncertain future at the Hawthorns.

He was not even named on the bench on Tuesday night for their 2-1 defeat to West Ham, even though Sebastien Pocognoli was absent through injury.

Instead, Baggies boss Alan Irvine opted for Chris Baird - on loan at Reading and Burnley last season - who came in for his second start in three games.

Now 23-year-old Davidson is believed to be open to a temporary move away from the Hawthorns after losing his international place in the Australia team.

Davidson played three games at the World Cup in Brazil, but has seen his Australia place taken by Turkey-based Aziz Behich.

However, Adkins denied any interest in signing the Baggies player, insisting: 'No, I don't know where that came from."

However, Royals boss Nigel Adkins is looking to strengthen in the left-back position after pushing Jordan Obita forward in recent matches and switching Chris Gunter from right-back to left.

Reading hope to build on last weekend's 2-1 victory at Norwich City when they host Bolton Wanderers at Madejski Stadium this Saturday (3pm ko).

See the Chronicle website for live coverage of the game.

CHILDREN aged seven and under can gain free entry to this Saturday’s home clash with Bolton Wanderers, as part of Reading’s Super 7s scheme.

The offer enables all season ticket holders over the age of 17, and non-season ticket holders who purchase a non-child ticket, to bring a child under 7 free of charge for selected Championship fixtures this season including the Bolton game this weekend plus future fixtures against Watford, Norwich City and Middlesbrough.
