Tom Hopper's header seemed to have given Finch the points against Farnborough Reserves, but Neil White's men were pulled back in the final minute

NEIL White has urged his side to turn up the volume if they want to rediscover that winning feeling.

Finch returned to action on Saturday after the unscheduled mid-season break, but were denied a much-needed victory when Farnborough Res snatched a stoppage time equaliser in a 2-2 draw.

It was a blow for the villagers, who seemed to be on course for their first league victory since September 19 against basement boys Penn & Tylers Green.

Boss White was left particularly disappointed that both of the visitors' goals came from set pieces, and believes that better communication could have seen his side come away with all three points.

He said: "The two goals both came from set pieces and a lack of communication. We are probably one of the quietest sides in the league and not vocal enough.

"I don't want a team that confronts referees all the time, but there is no reason we should be as quiet as we are.

"Maybe it's the personality of the players, but we have got to start talking to each other - it's such an important part of the game.

"There was an incident on Saturday when one of our guys was being closed down, and no-one gave him any warning - if I had been playing you would have heard me from three pitches away.

"You can be the eyes for your teammates if you communicate and it's a part of our game I really feel we can improve."

With Finch sitting sixth from bottom in Hellenic One (East), White is desperate to get a positive result under his belt to try and help his side move up the table.

That quest starts with the trip to Didcot Town Res this Saturday, where White is hoping his side will be able to close out the win if they find themselves in the same situation as last weekend.

He said: "We should be able to shut up shop once we get into the sort of position we were in on Saturday.

"It is something we were good at last season - we had a very good record against the teams at the top of the league and were a hard side to beat.

"We were not pushovers and that's something I'm trying to get into the players this season as well.

"If we can do that, we've seen we can create the chances to score goals and win games."

White admitted he was left 'very, very disappointed' by Farnborough's late show last weekend, as his side were twice pegged back after going in front.

Finch had the majority of the chances in the opening period, with Junior Arquimbau almost giving the hosts the perfect start only to see his effort rebound off the crossbar.

Kevin Prentice saw his header cleared off the line, while Pat Selby, Ben Knight and Scott Bursill also went close as Finch pushed for the opener.

It looked as though they would have to settle for parity at half-time despite their domination, until Knight popped up a minute before the break to give White's men the lead.

It didn't last long however, as Luke King cracked home a free-kick five minutes into the second half to make it 1-1.

But that inspired Finch to play some of their best football of the contest as they looked to break through the stout Farnborough defence for a second time.

Arquimbau was again denied by the woodwork, before the hosts were finally rewarded with 13 minutes to play when skipper Tom Hopper made it 2-1.

It looked like Finch would hold on, until Billy Watson rose unchallenged to head home from a corner with just seconds left and ensure a share of the points.

And White admitted: "It was very, very disappointing given the performance.

"Again we created lots of chances but couldn't kill the game off and there was barely time to kick-off after we had scored."
