Keith Scott
WINDSOR & Eton returned to training this week with manager Keith Scott hot on the trail of replacements for the players who have left.
Following the departures of Paul Coyne, Ben Porter, Ashley Vine and Mark Weeden Scott is looking to improve on last season"s squad.
The Royalists supremo remarked: 'Training was good, there"s still about six or seven of the boys on holiday. Some will be at the session on Saturday. It was a good turn out, we had a lot of trialists.
'Out of the targets I"m trying to get I secured one of them and spoke to another two yesterday (Wednesday) and hopefully by the end of the week, certainly the end of next week, I will know on both of those but they"re positive.
'You can"t put the forms through until the July 1st and I gave them to Steve Rowland (secretary) and when I get confirmation I will let you know.
'To be fair the guys who were with us last season, their levels of fitness were very good because they knew what it would be like. The trialists, it"s new to them, some found it tough.
'The strikers who I"m looking to sign did very well. It was a tough session and positive. We will crack on on Saturday and next Tuesday, Thursday we will start to get the balls out and do more football.'
Scott is also looking to develop the young talent that is already at Stag Meadow and had some down for pre-season on Wednesday.
'The three youth team guys did very well,' he said. 'Two of them are 16 and one 15, their levels were very good. I thought they coped well.
'I saw Matt Mooney and Ben Brown a few times last year and their performances in the youth team were very good. I thought what Graham (Malcolm) did with the youth team was fantastic and he will be in charge of the Capital (Reserve) League team this year with most of the youth team lads playing in it.
'Admittedly they are a little bit young but they"ve got to be able to develop. They will be playing Capital League football mainly. People develop at different rates. When I watch any of the Capital League players if I think they are good enough and can cope I will throw one of them into the squad, usually in the cups. You"ve got to give them the opportunity.
'If I think they are good enough somewhere along the line they will get an opportunity but it"s important that you don"t run before you can walk. That will be discussed between me and my staff, Graham and his assistant Andrew (Morten), the boy and his parents.'
