THE Slough Town spine has been added to by the imposing Jon Stevenson.

Central midfielder, Stevenson is 6ft 3inch and has a presence in the middle of the park that manager Steve Bateman feels is required in the Southern League Midlands Division.

'John Stevenson is a six foot, three inch central midfielder who really fits the bill for the league we are now in, he gives us a presence in there," confirmed the Rebels supremo.

'He can also drop in at centre-half and I"ve seen him play up front. I"ve talked about strengthenign the spine of the side and I"m looking at him playing in the middle.

'We signed him from Harlow Town in the Ryman Premier. He started last year with me at Hemel so he"s another lad who is known to me and will fit in. Like the rest of the boys I"ve signed, it"s not a gamble.'

The manager cannot wait for pre-season to start and it gets under way next week. Bateman commented: 'We will start training next Tuesday and take things from there. I"m expecting a good turn out and whilst I know that some of the guys are away on holiday, I would rather it was now then when we really get into it.

'There"s plenty of games and it will give us an opportunity to have a good look at everyone. I know how the new signings will play together, that"s why I worked hard to get the players in, we will see how some of the guys that were here last season can slot in with them."
