Keith Scott.
WINDSOR & Eton supremo Keith Scott was pleased that his side remained in Division 1 South & West of the Southern League after the Football Association"s announcement of the step four allocations.
It means less travelling for the Royalists which is something Scott is delighted with having managed Leighton Town in the Midlands Division before.
'From our point-of-view we are where we were last year and I"m delighted with that,' said Scott.
'I didn"t really want to go into the Midlands Division, purely and simply because the travelling is horrendous. When I managed in it with Leighton Town we were travelling at nine in the morning and not getting back until gone 10 at night.'
Another reason to please the boss about avoiding the switch to the Midlands Division is the fact that he believes less passing football is played there and so it would not suit Windsor"s style.
'They don"t play as much football in that league,' explained Scott. 'The pitches are not as good and a lot of the teams are quite direct so I"m delighted with it.'
There are plenty of new sides for Windsor to deal with next campaign but Scott is targeting another top five finish having been runners-up last season and missed out on promotion in the play-off semi-finals.
'Mangotsfield (United) and Yate (Town) have come down so they will be strong and looking to go back up,' he said.
'Bedfont Green, Hungerford, Frome and VT have all come up so they will be unknown quantities, you don"t know how much money will be thrown at it.
'We finished runners-up so maybe seen as one of the favourites but that will make you a target as well.
'Our objective will be the same as last season, to finish in the top five, once you"ve done that you can start to think about other things,' stated the Royalists manager.
'If anything it will be more difficult than last year because of the expectations.'
They will lose out on local derbies with Slough Town, Burnham and Beaconsfield SYCOB, which will be a shame for the supporters but maybe not so for the boss as those sorts of games you can often throw the form book out of the window as Windsor lost to the Rebels last year and did not beat the Rams either.
'That"s six games from a supporter"s point-of-view that is disappointing to lose but from a manager"s point-of-view local derbies are on a toss of a coin,' said Scott.
'If they were in the same league as us then we would have dealt with it but they are not.
'The most important thing is that we stayed in the South and West.'
