WOKINGHAM & Emmbrook climbed to sixth place in the Hellenic League Division One East table following a 2-0 success at Wallingford Town.

Sumas started brightly and Sam Lawrence-Whiting went close with an early free-kick, although the home side did have a chance which they blasted over.

Chris Hood shot over at the other end before Lawrence-Whiting’s 20-yard effort rebounded off the cross-bar.

The first chance of the second half fell to the away side as George Marsh went close before Hood nodded over Chris Newlove’s fine cross.

Lawrence-Whiting burst through but was denied by the goalkeeper’s out-stretched food, while Wokingham’s Sean Woodward was also forced into an outstanding save when Wallingford had a chance against the run of play.

Sumas did take the lead late on, however, as another Newlove cross was not cleared and Lawrence-Whiting was on hand to prod home in the 83rd minute.

And he then turned provider as the away side sealed the win, a lovely pass to Marsh well finished two minutes later.

Wokingham & Emmbrook host former landlords Henley Town in the Reading Senior Cup on Saturday (2pm).

Sandhurst Town

SANDHURST Town were knocked out of the Bluefin Sports Challenge Cup following a 5-2 defeat at Ardley United on Saturday.

A Greg Hackett strike and a Troy Bryan brace put Ardley 3-0 up inside 20 minutes before Charlie Oakley pulled a goal back for the Fizzers.

He also scored on 53 minutes, but a Liam Palfreman effort and Hackett’s second ended their hopes.

Sandhurst Town host Bicester Town in Division One East of the Hellenic League on Saturday (3pm).

Eversley & California – who did not have a game last week – visit Fleet Spurs in Division One of the Combined Counties League on Saturday (3pm) before hosting Ash United in the Aldershot Senior Cup on Tuesday (7.45).
