WOKINGHAM & Emmbrook fell to a 3-2 defeat to Virginia Water in a five-goal Hellenic League Division One East thriller at Lowther Road, writes Richard Ashton.

Sumas started brightly on Saturday and took a deserved 10th-minute lead after Sam Lawrence-Whiting released Ben Knight, and the striker set Tom Williams up to finish.

However, the away side hit back, equalising through Lorenzo Tommaso Di Felice after a well-crafted team move.

Adam McNamara then gave the visitors a 35th minute lead and it required a good save by Wokingham’s Chris Fairchild to ensure they did not slip further behind before the break.

Sumas began the second half well and could have levelled through James Charlton, but after having a number of shots blocked, they did make it 2-2 on the hour mark thanks to debutant Charlie Dean.

Yet it was the away side who made the decisive move 10 minutes later, McNamara’s second putting Waters back in front, and the second-placed side held on to take all three points.

Wokingham & Emmbrook visit Wallingford Town this coming Saturday (3pm).

  • CHARLIE Oakley scored four times to fire Sandhurst Town to an exciting 5-3 Hellenic League Division One East victory at AFC Aldermaston.

Sam Green gave the Fizzers an eighth-minute lead before Oakley doubled the advantage midway through the first half.

Craig Masterson cut the gap on 34 minutes, but an Oakley penalty ensured Sandhurst went into the break 3-1 to the good.

Martin King headed home to reduce the deficit early in the second half, and Masterson’s second then levelled matters just after the hour mark.

However, the Fizzers responded and Oakley put them back in front before sealing victory with his second successful spot-kick.
