BINFIELD won 3-0 at Abingdon United on Saturday, but were given no easy ride by a side who were a man down for more than half the game.

Moles manager Roger Herridge was quick to praise the opposition, saying: “All credit to Abingdon, they worked their socks off with 10 men from the 38th minute.”

The hosts had Joe Green sent off after appearing to head-butt Ian Davies.

It came shortly after Josh Howell had fired Binfield in front.

Davies went on to double the lead after 72 minutes with Brad Pagliaroli completing the scoring with a late penalty.

“In the end it was a comfortable win,” commented Herridge, whose side now remain unbeaten in five league games, leaving them eighth in the table.

Binfield gave a debut to 19-year-old midfielder Will Shaw, who has joined them from Basingstoke on a dual registration.

But they picked up three more injuries during the afternoon.

Alex Colverd pulled out in the warm-up due to a shin problem, while Howell and Davies both limped off in quick succession during the second half.

Substitutes Dan Davies and Josh Millar looked lively in the last 15 minutes.

All three face fitness tests before the Moles entertain Woodley United in the first round of the Bluefin Sports Hellenic League Cup on Friday evening (7.45pm).
