WOKINGHAM & Emmbrook’s perfect start to the Hellenic League Division One season ended when they lost for the first time in four games 2-1 at home to Penn & Tylers Green.
The visitors took the lead on 12 minutes when they worked the ball across the pitch via George Weller and captain Danny Jordan to Alex Sethi, and he whipped in a perfect low cross which Jordan Gumbs stooped to head in from eight yards into the bottom corner.
Tom Williams was sent from the Wokingham bench shortly afterwards, although Dan Bateman’s (pictured right) side levelled in the 36th minute, Sam Lawrence (left) sliding the ball home after Penn & Tylers Green goalkeeper Josh Cockerill had made a start save.
The away side began the second half stronger, although they had to wait until 15 minutes from time for the match-winning goal.
Former Finchampstead man Danny Blatchford whipped in a perfect corner, and Casey Bocarro tapped home from five yards to put his side 2-1 up.
Sumas continued to battle, but could not equalise, Ben Broadhurst’s late sending off rubbing salt into the wounds.
Wokingham & Emmbrook visit Slough Heating Laurencians in the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy on Saturday (3pm).
